The Keuka College Field Hockey team lost at home to nationally-ranked SUNY Geneseo 8-0 at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex on Saturday in an Empire 8 game.

Senior goalie Jordan Nichols (Deposit, N.Y. / Afton) recorded 24 saves for Keuka College (1-11, 1-4 Empire 8) in 42 minutes of action.

The Wolves defended their goal early in the game on Saturday with Nichols making four saves and Ashley Pospiech (Fairport, N.Y. / Fairport) recording a defensive save in the first five minutes. The Knights broke through but the Wolves held them there. Keuka had 11 saves in the opening frame as it remained 1-0 after the first.

Play continued in Keuka’s defensive end in the second quarter. Jordan Nichols had six saves in the second quarter. The Knights were able to add to their lead with a pair of goals to hold a 3-0 advantage at the half.

An early opportunity was given to SUNY Geneseo in the third quarter as a penalty stroke was awarded. Nichols stopped the high shot to keep the margin at three. However, Geneseo added two more later in the frame to carry a 5-0 lead into the final quarter.

Two early goals for SUNY Geneseo extended their lead in the fourth. The Wolves were able to build pressure and got a penalty corner, however the ensuing shot was wide of goal. The Knights added a final goal as they defeated the Wolves 8-0 on Saturday.

KC Notes:

  • The Wolves have faced the Knights in every season of the Keuka College Field Hockey program, but SUNY Geneseo has won every matchup
  • SUNY Geneseo entered the game ranked 19th in the NFHCA poll. It was Keuka’s third-ever game against a ranked team and the first since the 2018 season
  • In total, the Wolves had 28 saves on Saturday tying for the second-most in a game in program history. The Keuka College record was set against SUNY Geneseo in 2015
  • A familiar face was on the sideline on Saturday. Former Keuka College Field Hockey player Laura Ramsey ’22 is an assistant coach for SUNY Geneseo

Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves remain at home this week as they host Houghton University on Wednesday at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex.
