Keuka Falls at Nazareth in Empire 8 Women’s Basketball Conference Play

The Keuka College women’s basketball team fell in conference play at Nazareth on Saturday, dropping a 70-51 decision.

Lillian Mullen (Canisteo, N.Y./Canisteo-Greenwood) led the Wolves with 17 points, while Mary Cotter (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) added 13 points and paced the team with five rebounds.

Nazareth (11-4, 5-1 E8) opened the game by hitting its first three shots, using a 7-0 run that was halted by a jumper from Brooke Burd (Canisteo, N.Y./Canisteo-Greenwood) for Keuka College (6-8, 1-5 E8). The Golden Flyers continued their strong start, closing the first quarter by outscoring the Wolves 17-6.

Keuka increased its offensive output in the second quarter, scoring 11 points while tightening defensively and holding Nazareth to 15 points. Both teams shot 33.3 percent from the field during the period, but the Wolves entered halftime trailing 39-19.

Scoring was limited for both teams to open the second half, with just 10 total points scored in the first five minutes of the third quarter. Mary Cotter attempted to spark a rally with back-to-back three-pointers with three minutes remaining, but Nazareth responded with a three of its own. Brooke Burd closed the quarter with four unanswered points as Keuka headed into the final period down 17.

The Wolves posted their highest-scoring quarter of the game in the fourth, putting up 18 points, but it was not enough as Nazareth added 21 points in the final frame to maintain control and secure the victory.

  • Mary Cotter made five three-pointers over the weekend, moving into fourth place all-time in career three-pointers with 143
  • Emilee Bacon (Buffalo, N.Y./Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart) grabbed five rebounds, surpassing 100 total rebounds on the season
  • Brooke Burd also finished in double figures with 11 points
