Keuka College freshman Alessandra Castañeda has made an immediate impact on the volleyball court, earning Empire 8 Conference Rookie of the Week honors after her debut weekend with the Wolves.
The San Antonio, Texas native recorded double-digit kills in all four matches of the Keuka College Invitational, opening with 11 against MCLA. She also tallied four service aces and nine digs in the win over the Trailblazers.
Her strongest performance came in the Wolves’ victory over SUNY Canton, where she finished with 15 kills and 14 digs. Castañeda notched double-doubles in three of the team’s four matches.
Through one weekend of play, she is tied for the conference lead with 49 kills, averaging 3.06 per set. She also ranks fifth in the Empire 8 with 50 digs, averaging 3.13 per set.
The Wolves return to action this weekend at the North Country Invitational, with matches against St. Lawrence University, Clarkson University, and SUNY Plattsburgh.
