Keuka College Field Hockey Loses to Oneonta 9-0

The Keuka College Field Hockey team lost at SUNY Oneonta 9-0 on Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference game.

Alternating quarters in goal, Khadeeja Reed (Webster, N.Y. / Webster Schroeder) and Nijeylie Torres (East Irondequoit, N.Y. / Eastridge) combined for 19 saves for Keuka College (0-2).

The Red Dragons came out and pushed the game against the Wolves. First-year goalie Khadeeja Reed recorded five saves early in the first, but Oneonta led 2-0 midway through the frame. The Wolves had an offensive attack as Alexis McGregor’s (Liverpool, N.Y. / Liverpool) shot was saved. Keuka was awarded a corner and off of that, Anna Dewey (Sidney, N.Y. / Sidney) rang a shot off the post and the ball was cleared away. Oneonta added a goal to lead 3-0 after the first.

SUNY Oneonta added two more goals early in the second. Nijeylie Torres played the second quarter in goal for the Wolves and made eight saves, but Keuka College trailed 5-0 at the half.

The Wolves had the first chance in the third quarter. Off of a corner, Tori Nelson’s (Vernon Center, N.Y. / Vernon-Verona-Sherrill)shot was saved. Play flipped ends and the Red Dragons found two more goals for a 7-0 advantage.

The game was seen out by the home team in the final 15 minutes. SUNY Oneonta capped the game with two more goals as they defeated Keuka College 9-0.

  • It was the first collegiate appearance for both Torres and Reed

Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves return home this weekend in search of their first win. Keuka College will host Lycoming College at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex at 1 p.m. on Saturday. It will be the third all-time meeting and the previous two have been very close. Lycoming defeated Keuka in a shootout two years ago and edged the Wolves out with a fourth-quarter goal last season.
