Keuka Baseball Sweeps Weekend Finale Vs. Alfred

The Keuka College Baseball team closed their 2025 season on Sunday night with three wins against Alfred University at the University of Rochester.

The Wolves doubled their win total both overall and within the Empire 8 Conference from 2024. Keuka College finished 16-20 overall and 10-14 in the Empire 8 this season.

Keuka College 9 vs. Alfred University 1 – Resumption from May 2

Play resumed from Friday with the Wolves at bat in the bottom of the third. The Wolves added to their established 6-0 lead as Tyler Lewandowski (Milltown, N.J. / Spotswood) working a walk and stealing second. He scored on a double by Zach Keck (De Soto, Mo. / De Soto) to make it 7-0.

Mason Smith (Corning, N.Y. / Corning-Painted Post) started the game on Friday for the Wolves and continued on the mound on Sunday. He kept the Saxons off balance on both days. Alfred would scratch one run across in the eighth to break up the shutout.

The Wolves responded with two runs in the bottom of the frame. Anders Axelson (Lansing, N.Y. / Lansing) closed the game out in the ninth with a pair of strikeouts for the 9-1 victory.

Keuka College 12 vs. Alfred University 1 – Game 1

Alfred University took advantage of a leadoff walk and scored on a two-out single for the early advantage.

That lead held until the fourth inning. Keuka College took advantage of a pair of Saxon errors to put runners on base. The Wolves tied the game on a two-out single from Ethan Drinon (Middleburgh, N.Y. / Schoharie).

The Wolves took the lead an inning later. Alex Evans (Liverpool, N.Y. / Liverpool) led the inning off with a double for the Wolves. After Kyle Wood (Newark, N.Y. / Newark) was hit by the pitch, Carlos Fantauzzi (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Canandaigua Academy) ripped a line drive just over the second baseman’s glove and into the game. He legged out the double to score a run and give the Wolves the lead. A groundout scored Wood, and a triple from Donald Nemeth (Guilderland, N.Y. / Guilderland) scored Fantauzzi as the Wolves extended their lead to 4-1. Ethan Drinon followed with his second RBI single of the game for the 5-1 lead.

The Wolves put the game way in the sixth. Three runs were walked in. Tyler Lewandowski delivered a two-run double for the Wolves. Drinon doubled as well for Keuka to score Lewandowski. Kole Schmerder (Vestal, N.Y. / Vestal) capped off the scoring for the Wolves with a pinch-hit RBI single.

Keegan Ferris (Elbridge, N.Y. / Jordan Elbridge) pitched into the seventh inning for the Wolves. He was relieved to a standing ovation to cap his senior season. Fellow senior Ethan Tillotson (Pavillion, N.Y. / Pavillion) entered in relief and struck out the final batter of the game looking to secure the 12-1 victory.

Keuka College 3 vs. Alfred University 1 – Game 2

Senior Jesse Capitano (Depew, N.Y. / Depew) got the ball in the final game of the season and started the game strong. The senior struck out the side in the first inning and then the first two batters he faced in the second for the Wolves.

Alfred took the lead with a pair of walks and a single in the fourth inning, but the Wolves answered back in the bottom of the fifth.

Jackson Loper (Riverhead, N.Y. / Riverhead) led the inning off with a single to right and Shane Daley (Elma, N.Y. / Iroquois) followed with a pinch-hit sacrifice bunt. Alex Evans singled for the Wolves and advanced to second on the throw to give the Wolves runners on second and third with one out. Kyle Wood hit a sacrifice fly for the Wolves. The throw went to third and got away allowing Evans to score as well giving the Wolves a 2-1 lead. Carlos Fantauzzi singled for the Wolves and scored on a triple by Derek Novicki (North Haven, Conn. / North Haven) to make it 3-1 Keuka.

The rest was in the hands of Capitano. The senior would go the distance for the Wolves for the complete game. He struck out a career-best 13 batters and allowed just one hit as Keuka College defeated Alfred 3-1.
