SHARE NOW

The Keuka College Baseball team lost 9-8 on a walkoff home run in the tenth inning to Juniata College on Monday evening in Florida.

Kyle Wood (Newark, N.Y. / Newark) led Keuka College (3-3) with three hits including a home run. The senior scored a run and drove in a pair. Fellow senior Tyler Lewandowski (Milltown, N.J. / Spotswood) also had a big game with two hits including a home run, three runs batted in, and a run scored. Derek Novicki (North Haven, Conn. / North Haven) also homered and added a double for the Wolves.

The Wolves got out to a fast start as Kyle Wood homered to left center for the lead. Carlos Fantauzzi (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Canandaigua Academy) followed with a walk and then scored from first on a double by Derek Novicki to make it 2-0.

Starting pitcher Keegan Ferris (Elbridge, N.Y. / Jordan Elbridge) sat the Eagles down quickly striking out two of three in the bottom of the first. The Wolves kept the momentum going in the second. A two-out single by Ian Ruhmel (Horseheads, N.Y. / Horseheads) was followed by a home run by Tyler Lewandowski to extend the lead to 4-0.

Keuka College plated two more in the fourth on RBI singles by Tyler Lewandowski and Kyle Wood. However, Juniata cut Keuka’s lead in half with three runs in the bottom of the fourth to make it 6-3.

The Wolves ripped the momentum right back, however, as Derek Novicki led off the top of the fifth with a solo home run. The Wolves added a run later in the frame on a pair of Juniata errors to hold an 8-3 over the Eagles.

Juniata got a run back in the sixth. The Eagles then rallied for four runs in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game.

Keuka College put two on with one out in the top of the ninth but would strand the runners. Juniata wouldn’t score in the bottom of the ninth and the game would go to extra innings.

In the tenth, the Wolves were retired in order. Then, the first batter in the bottom of the inning would homer for Juniata as the Eagles defeated the Wolves 9-8.

Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves continue their spring trip on Tuesday as Keuka College will face Framingham State in a doubleheader in Winter Haven, Fla.
