Junior Hope Johnson led William Smith to the finish line in the 2024 Liberty League Women’s Cross Country Championships on Saturday.
Johnson covered the 6-kilometer course in 24:34.3, finishing 51st out of 101 entries. First-year Bella Miller was the next Heron across the line, stopping the clock at 25:55.8 to finish 66th. Senior Rebecca Barr was 73rd in 26:22.6. First-year Joan Reichert was next to the line in 27:17.4 in 77th place. Sophomore Carden Costello rounded out William Smith’s team score, running a career-best 27:20.0 to place one spot behind Reichert.
Vassar won the team title by five points over runner-up RPI. St. Lawrence was third followed by Ithaca, RIT, Union, William Smith, Clarkson and Bard. The Brewers’ Haley Schoenegge was the individual champion, stopping the clock at 20:59.6.
Following a week off, William Smith will run in the NCAA Niagara Regional Championships, Nov. 16 at Fredonia.
