After seven innings of play, the Hobart baseball team held a 4-3 lead over Ithaca, but the Bombers scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth to escape with a 7-4 Liberty League win. Sophomore Jack Byrnes produced a game-high three hits and stole a base for the Statesmen.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- With two on and two out in the top of the first inning, Hobart sophomore Sean Garvin delivered a single up the middle that scored junior Evan Munuz and Connor Schmiedlin.
- Ithaca got both runs back in the third inning. Riley Brawdy tripled to score Ryan Laubscher and Ethan McDonough followed to with a single, scoring Brawdy.
- The Statesmen reclaimed the lead in the seventh. Conte drew a leadoff walk and moved to second on a passed ball. Owen Sanders then laid down a bunt single. The throw to first was wild allowing Conte to score and Sanders to move to second. Byrnes singled to center advancing Sanders to third. Petry’s sacrifice bunt scored Sanders for a 4-2 lead.
- Brawdy picked up his second RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh making it a one-run game.
- Ithaca scored four unearned runs in the eighth on just one hit to claim its first lead. Brawdy delivered a two-out, two-run single to cap the scoring.
- Jack Colyer pitched a scoreless ninth to get the win over the Bombers.

- Hobart slips to 16-14 overall, 6-10 in the Liberty League.
- Ithaca improves to 21-11, 13-4 in conference play.
UP NEXT
- The Statesmen and Bombers will reconvene for a doubleheader at McDonough Park in Geneva beginning at noon on Sunday, April 27. Prior to the start of Game 1, Hobart will have a brief on-field ceremony to recognize the team’s five seniors.
