Junior Hope Johnson posted her second top 10 finish in as many races this season, leading the William Smith cross country team to the finish line in the 5-kilometer Tom Balon Alumni Classic Saturday. She placed eighth out of 91 runners, helping the Herons place fifth out of eight teams.
Johnson posted a time of 20:24.1, 1:17.2 off the winning time posted by Kerry Flower of the Brockport alumni team. Johnson opened the season with a 10-place effort at St. John Fisher.

Ithaca topped the team standings with four runners in the top 10. Host Brockport was second, nine points back. Houghton was third followed by Brockport alumni, William Smith, Alfred State, Fredonia and Alfred.
Going The Distance
The Herons’ next race, the Yellowjacket Invitational on Sept. 21, will be the team’s first race at championship distance, 6K.
