Hobart and William Smith Associate Vice President and Director of Athletics and Recreation Brian Miller recently announced a promotion and several title changes for members of the athletics staff.
Business Manager Christine Finnerty has been promoted to director of business operations. She will assume increased responsibilities and oversight of the athletic department’s budget and take over management of the HWS Athletics Corporate Alliance Program.
Finnerty has been a member of the athletics staff since 2014, serving as an administrative assistant before being promoted to business manager in 2021.
Coordinator of Sports Medicine/Athletics Healthcare Administrator Stephanie Habecker‘s title will now be assistant athletic director for sports medicine/head athletic trainer. She joined the HWS sports medicine staff in 2018 and was promoted to lead the team in 2021. Habecker will remain in her role as the athletics healthcare administrator.
Associate Athletic Trainer Mary Beth Schram is now associate head athletic trainer. She has been a member of the HWS sports medicine team since 2018 and was promoted to associate athletic trainer in 2021. Habecker and Schram lead a Sports Medicine Department comprised of seven full-time athletic trainers, one of the largest in Division III athletics.
Head Strength and Conditioning Coach and Coordinator of Student-Athlete Development Brittany Krivicich is now assistant director of athletics for sports performance. Now in her second stint with HWS Athletics, she was hired as the associate head strength and conditioning coach in 2021 and promoted to head strength and conditioning coach and coordinator of student-athlete development last year. In her role, Krivicich leads HWS athletics’ sports performance programs, including strength and conditioning and the student-athlete development programs, the Napier Leadership Seminar and Peak Performance Plan.
Associate Head Strength and Conditioning Coach Derek Berry will now assume the role of associate head coach of strength and conditioning and director of sports science. He began his time with HWS as an assistant strength and conditioning coach in 2022 and was promoted to associate head coach in 2024. As the director of sports science, Berry will oversee the expansion of sport science programs at HWS to improve athlete performance and well-being.

“These staff members will continue to work closely alongside Assistant Director of Athletics for Equipment and Operations Kevin McDonald, Director of Recreation Jacob Lees, and Director of Athletic Communications Ken DeBolt to support all of our programs, coaches, and student-athletes. The adjustments reflect the importance of each functional area to the success of the department and the overall experience and well-being of our student-athletes I look forward to my continued work with each of these department leaders to advance the mission of HWS Athletics.”
