The Keuka College Men’s Soccer team lost 5-1 at Houghton University on Wednesday night in an Empire 8 matchup. Anthony Pontello (Syracuse, N.Y. / West Genesee) scored in the second half for Keuka College (0-10, 0-6).

The Wolves had some early attempts on Wednesday with a pair of corner kicks, but their shots never made it to goal and were blocked. Houghton took the lead in the 13th minute. Keuka College continued the pressure. The Green and Gold had a 10-5 advantage in shots and 6-1 edge in corners, but Houghton remained ahead at the half.

Play opened up in the second half. Houghton added to their total with a goal five minutes into the half. They would push their lead up to 4-0 over Keuka. The Wolves got on the board in the 74th minute as Branden Finn (Phoenix, N.Y. / Phoenix) found Anthony Pontello for the goal. Momentum was short-lived, however, as the Highlanders added a fifth goal as they continued on to defeat the Wolves on Wednesday.

KC Notes:

  • The Wolves are now 1-5-1 all-time against the Highlanders
  • It was the first collegiate goal for Anthony Pontello
  • The goal also snapped a shutout streak the Highlanders had against the Wolves. It was Keuka’s first tally against Houghton since the 2019 matchup
  • Cory Cangemi (Marcellus, N.Y. / Marcellus) made five saves for the Wolves. He broke a tie and moved into sole possession of fifth on the career saves list

Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves face a familiar foe on Saturday. Keuka College will play at SUNY Poly on Saturday afternoon. The Wolves last faced the Wildcats in the quarterfinal round of the 2019 North Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament. Saturday will also be a conference game as both teams are now members of the Empire 8 Conference.
