Hobart lacrosse senior attackman Alex Rosa (West Genesee/Syracuse, N.Y.) was named to the USILA National Team of Week for his role in the Statesmen’s 26-13 win over St. Bonaventure on Saturday. He was also named the Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Rosa produced a career-high seven points on a career-high six goals and an assist. He also collected three ground balls. He had a hat trick in the first half as Hobart carried a 14-6 lead into halftime. He logged another hat trick in the third quarter, helping the Statesmen build a 21-12 lead with 15 minutes remaining.
A starter in all 13 games this season, Rosa has a team-high 26 goals and six assists for 32 points as well as 22 ground balls and three caused turnovers. He has played in 51 career games, recording 66 goals and 15 assists for 81 points. On the program’s Division I era list, Rosa ranks fifth in career extra-man goals (17) and 18th in career goals.
The St. Bonaventure game was Hobart’s senior day and Rosa was honored along with his classmates prior to the game. Rosa was accompanied on the field by his family, including his father, Tom Rosa ’86. During the game, Alex raised his career points total to 81, surpassing his father’s career total with the Statesmen (78).
The game also featured another Rosa family connection. Hobart’s 18 assists against the Bonnies were the most since the Statesmen rang up 23 in a 1986 win over Geneseo. Tom scored twice in that game.
Hobart (4-9) will take on UMass (9-4) in its regular season finale on Friday, April 25. Faceoff in Amherst, Massachusetts, is set for 5 p.m.
