Hobart’s Nash named Liberty League Pitcher of the Week

Hobart College junior Teck Nash (Christian Brothers Academy.Cicero, N.Y.) was named the Liberty League Pitcher of the Week by the conference office today. His complete game led the Statesmen to a 7-2 victory at St. Lawrence on Friday.

Additionally, sophomore outfielder Connor O’Neil (Wellesley/Wellesley, Mass.) earned a spot on the league’s weekly honor roll.

Nash pitched the first complete game by a Statesman this season, going nine innings in a 7-2 win over St. Lawrence on Friday. He retired the first 11 batters he faced and sat the Saints down in order in six of the nine innings. He allowed just five hits in the game, two runs (only one earned), recorded four strikeouts and did not issue a walk.

In eight starts, Nash has thrown 53 2/3 innings, striking out 33 while walking a league-low five. He is 2-4 with a 3.69 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP. Nash leads the Liberty League and is 10th in the nation in walks per nine innings (0.84) and leads the league and is 30th in the country in strikeout-to-walk (6.6).

O’Neil hit .385 with a .529 on-base percentage in a 2-2 week for the Statesmen. In an 11-10 win over Keuka on Thursday, he was 1-for-2 with three runs scored, two walks, two RBIs, and a stolen base. Against SLU on Friday, O’Neil went 2-for-4 with an RBI. In Saturday’s doubleheader against the Saints, he was a combined 2-for-7.

O’Neil has a seven-game hitting streak and has a hit in 11 of the 16 games he’s played in this season. He’s batting .364 with three stolen bases, four RBIs and five runs.

Hobart is 16-12 overall, 6-9 in Liberty League play. The Statesmen return to action tonight when they welcome Alfred State (18-12) to Geneva. It will be Little League Night at McDonough Park with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m.
