Hobart sophomore Cole Conte (Smithtown East/Saint James, N.Y.) was named the Liberty League Baseball Rookie of the Week by the conference office today. Sophomore pitcher Trevor Kimball (Amesbury/Amesbury, Mass.) earned a spot on the league’s weekly honor roll.
The Statesmen will play their first home game of the season Tuesday, March 11, hosting Elmira. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. at FLCC’s Multi-use Turf Field in Canandaigua.
Conte hit .444 with a pair of doubles and two runs scored as Hobart won two of three games at Farmingdale State over the weekend. On Friday, he went 2-for-4 with a double and scored Hobart’s lone run in a 3-1 loss. On Saturday, he started both games of the doubleheader, going 2-for-5. He added another double in the second game of the series. Conte wrapped up the weekend with a 1-for-2 effort at the plate, adding a walk, a stolen base, and a run scored in a 3-2 triumph.
Conte, who missed last season due to injury, is batting a team-leading .308 through five games. He has two doubles, two walks and two stolen bases.
Kimball picked up his first win of the season, shutting down Farmingdale State on Saturday. He threw six scoreless innings, striking out seven with no walks and only two hits as the Statesmen prevailed 9-0. Kimball faced just two batters over the minimum.
Kimball has thrown 12 innings in two starts, recording a 1.50 ERA with 12 strike outs.
The Statesmen are 3-2 heading into Tuesday’s showdown with the Pioneers (4-5).
This will be the fourth meeting between Hobart and Elmira since the Statesmen returned to varsity status in 2023. Hobart has won the previous three games, including a doubleheader sweep at McDonough Park last season (6-1, 9-0).
