Hobart junior wide receiver Ahmad Crowell (Manhasset/Bridgton Academy/Great Neck, N.Y.) and first-year wide receiver Johnny Harding (McQuaid/Rochester, N.Y.) both earned awards from the Liberty League this afternoon. Crowell was named the Liberty League Football Offensive Performer of the Week, while Harding was tabbed the Liberty League Football Rookie of the Week. Additionally, senior linebacker Jaimen Bliss (Solvay/Syracuse, N.Y.) earned a spot on the league’s weekly honor roll.
Hobart improved to 2-1 on the season with a 27-12 win over Moravian on Saturday. The Statesmen exploded for 20 fourth-quarter points to secure the victory.
Crowell caught four passes for a game-high 130 yards and two touchdowns against the Greyhounds. He was targeted twice in the fourth quarter, taking the first pass 77 yards for what-proved-to-be the game-winning touchdown and the second 25 yards for the day’s final TD. Crowell’s 77-yard catch and run is the longest reception by a Liberty League player this season and his 130 yards are the most by a conference player this year. He’s the first Statesman with a 100-yard receiving game since Rane Daramola caught four passes for 129 yards against Union on Oct. 29, 2022. No Statesman has had more receiving yards than Crowell since Oct. 6, 2018, when Jake Catalioto made eight catches for 148 yards against Union.
Crowell has six receptions for a team-high 170 yards and three touchdowns this season.
Harding also caught four passes against Moravian. He gained 48 yards and scored his first collegiate touchdown, a 10-yard strike that tied the game early in the third quarter. Harding also added a 20-yard kickoff return to Hobart’s winning effort.
Harding has played in all three games this season. He leads Hobart with 12 receptions for 127 yards. This is the third time in as many weeks that a Hobart player has been named the Rookie of the Week. Defensive tackle Billy Brosko won the first two.
Bliss led the Statesmen defense with 12 tackles, including 1.5 for loss and a sack. He also broke up a pass play and forced a fumble. Hobart limited Moravian to a season-low 53 yards rushing and just 279 total yards.
Bliss has a team-high 28 tackles and a team-high five tackles for loss. In 35 career games, he’s accumulated 191 tackles, 25 tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks, eight pass breakups, four forced fumbles, and two interceptions.
Hobart will play its final non-conference game of the season on the road, traveling to La Plume, Pennsylvania, to face Keystone (1-2) at noon on Sept. 28.
