Hobart junior punter Vicente Lyon’s (Yorktown/Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) record-breaking effort against Ithaca earned him a spot on the D3football.com Team of the Week, presented by Scoutware. Named the Liberty League Co-Special Teams Performer of the Week yesterday, he broke the Statesmen records for longest punt and highest punt average in Hobart’s 16-7 victory.
In the first quarter, Lyon was called on to punt from his own end zone. His kick could not have been much better. Lyon launched a booming punt that landed at the Ithaca 45 and rolled all the way to the Bombers 13, an 86-yard punt. It is the longest punt in NCAA football this season and 13 yards longer than the previous Hobart record which Lyon set against Ithaca in 2022.
Lyon punted three more times against the Bombers on Saturday, covering 57, 56 and 61 yards. His four punts traveled a total of 260 yards. Lyon averaged 65.0 yards per punt against Ithaca, the highest average by a Statesman in a game with at least three punts. The previous mark (53.0) was set by senior Tobias Wefering at Ithaca last season.
In five games, Lyon has punted 23 times for 990 yards, averaging a Liberty League-leading 43.0 yards per punt. He ranks ninth in the nation in punting average. Lyon has a league-high six punts that covered 50-plus yards. He also has dropped four inside the opponent’s 20-yard line, including two against the Bombers.

Halfway through the season, Hobart is 4-1 overall. The Statesmen are 1-0 in the Liberty League. The loss snapped Ithaca’s 13-game conference winning streak.
Hobart begins a two-game road trip with a visit to Buffalo State (2-2, 0-0) on Saturday, Oct. 12. Kickoff at Coyer Field is scheduled for 3 p.m.
