The Hobart lacrosse team got off to a fast start, putting third-ranked Cornell in a 7-3 hole early in the second quarter, but the Big Red lived up to their ranking. Cornell scored 10 straight goals on its way to a 22-9 win on Boswell Field at Urick Stadium.
The Statesmen got a hat trick from senior attackman Alex Rosa. Faceoff specialists graduate student Cole Emmanuel and sophomore Mike Valent both had strong games. Emmanuel won 10-of-17, collected a team-high seven ground balls and assisted on a goal while Valent won 8-of-16 with five ground balls, a goal and an assist. Sophomore goalie Jackson Faiola made 14 saves.
Cornell was led by three-time All-American senior attackman CJ Kirst’s six goals and six assists. Sophomore attackman Ryan Goldestein added five points (3-2). Junior faceoff specialist Jack Cascadden was 14-of-28 with seven ground balls and two goals. Junior defenseman Brendan Staub grabbed a game-high 10 ground balls and caused three turnovers. Goalies senior Wyatt Knust and sophomore Matthew Tully combined for 18 saves.

FAST START
- The Statesmen scored first when Rosa whipped home a shot three minutes in.
- Cornell equalized less than a minute later, but Hobart posted back-to-back goals for a 3-1 lead. It’s the first time the Big Red have trailed by more than one goal this season.
- Kirst netted consecutive goals two minutes apart to knot the game at 3.
- The Statesmen got two quick goals, seven seconds apart thanks to its faceoff men. Valent won the faceoff after Kirst’s second goal and raced straight to the cage, dishing to Rosa who fired home his second of the game. Emmanuel gave fans a case of déjà vu, winning the faceoff clean and feeding Rosa, who scored his team-leading 13th of the season.
- Hobart led 5-3 at the end of the first quarter.
- The Statesmen got two more quick goals to begin the second quarter. Senior John Jude Considine got on the board two minutes in. Valent won the ensuing faceoff and this time did the scoring himself, picking up his third of the season.
- Cornell found its footing and scored the next eight goals to carry an 11-7 lead into halftime.
- The Big Red tacked on two more to start the second half before first-year Johnny Harding scored his first collegiate goal to stop the run.

- Hobart will head out on road for the first time this season, visiting Robert Morris on Saturday, March 1. The opening faceoff at Joe Walton Stadium is scheduled for 2 p.m.
