The Hobart football team scored 20 unanswered points in the fourth quarter on the way to a 27-12 win over Moravian on Boswell Field Saturday. The Statesmen produced 152 of their 364 yards on the day in the final 15 minutes.
On offense, the Hobart trio of quarterback Johnny Colombi, wide receiver Ahmad Crowell and running back E.J. Taylor all enjoyed a strong outing. Colombi threw for 250 yards and three touchdowns, including two to Crowell, who finished with four catches for 130 yards. Taylor produced his second 100-yard rushing game of the year, logging 101 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries.
Trailing 12-7 entering the fourth quarter, the Hobart defense got an early stop and the Statesmen offense responded with a quick strike. On third and 10 from the Moravian 34, senior linebacker Vincent Giordano sacked the Greyhounds’ quarterback for a 9-yard loss.
After a 52-yard punt, Hobart took over at its own 23. On first down, Colombi connected with Crowell on a fade route at the Moravian 43, from there the 6-foot-4, 200-pounder took it to the house for a 77-yard touchdown. The Statesmen added a 1-yard TD run by Taylor and a 25-yard Colombi to Crowell touchdown down the stretch to seal the victory.
Meanwhile, the Hobart defense just gets stingier and stingier against the run. The Statesmen held Alfred to 91 yards on the ground in the opener, limited then No. 8 Randolph-Macon to 65 last week and this week only allowed the Greyhounds to pick up 53 rushing yards.
While Moravian relies much more on its passing attack, in the crunch time of the fourth quarter, Hobart only allowed 44 yards through the air and logged two of its three sacks in the game. Colombi was 2-for-2 passing for 102 yards, all to Crowell, in the fourth quarter.

BOSWELL BOUNCE
Hobart got on the board early in the third quarter thanks to a muffed punt by the visitors. The Statesmen stalled out near midfield on the first drive of the half and punted. The kick was mishandled by Moravian and the loose ball was recovered by Xavier Aviles at the Greyhounds’ 25. Four plays later, wide receiver Johnny Harding pulled in his first collegiate touchdown, a 10-yard pass from Colombi.
Moravian reclaimed the lead late in the third quarter on a 17-yard pass play from Jenkins to wide receiver Bryan Monge setting up the Hobart fireworks of the fourth.
