Behind a career-high 27 points by Tyler Green (Sackets Harbor, N.Y. / Sackets Harbor) the Keuka College Men’s Basketball team won at Hartwick College 78-55 in an Empire 8 Conference game.
Five threes paced the career-high for Green. The junior shot 10-13 from the floor. Also in double digits for Keuka College (4-8, 1-3 Empire 8) were Akinlana Popoola (Cleveland, Ohio / Padua Franciscan) and Will Tehan (Victor, N.Y. / Victor). Popoola finished with 15 points and Tehan had 10 for the Wolves.
The Wolves got off to a fast start as Akinlana Popoola hit a baseline jumper. Marcus Reed (Queens, N.Y. / Our Saviour Lutheran) then stole the ball and found Will Tehan for a three. The Green and Gold built an 11-1 lead five minutes into the game. After a Hartwick layup, the Wolves went on a 16-0 run. Green started it with a three and ended it with a pair of free throws as Keuka College held a 27-3 lead midway through the first. The Hawks cut into the lead, but Green put an exclamation point on a big first half for Keuka. He stole the ball with four seconds left and made a layup at the buzzer to send the Wolves to the locker room leading 38-22.
Keuka College continued the strong defensive performance as Amar Jackson (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Frederick Douglas Academy) stole the ball on the opening possession of the second half and found Akinlana Popoola for a jumper. The Hawks would stay in the game and cut Keuka’s lead down to 10 with 11 minutes remaining, but Tyler Green answered with a personal 8-0 run for the Wolves. Keuka College remained in control from there. The Green and Gold pushed their lead out to 23 as the Wolves defeated the Hawks 78-55 on Tuesday night.
