Geneseo Women Hand Keuka Setback, 79-55

The Keuka College women’s basketball team opened Empire 8 play on Saturday with a 79-55 loss at SUNY Geneseo.

Janea Hamilton-Brown (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) led the Wolves with a season-high 14 points.

SUNY Geneseo (7-2, 1-0 Empire 8) started the game strong with seven unanswered points. First-year Rylee Couzzo (York, N.Y./York) scored the first basket for Keuka College (4-4, 0-1 Empire 8) in her first career start. By the end of the first quarter, the Wolves had trimmed the deficit to six, thanks to eight points from Lillian Mullen (Canisteo, N.Y./Canisteo-Greenwood).

The Knights opened the second quarter with an 8-0 run before Janea Hamilton-Brown stopped the surge with a 3-pointer. Geneseo continued to respond and carried an 11-point lead into halftime. Hamilton-Brown scored 10 points in the second quarter to keep Keuka within reach.

In the third quarter, Geneseo used a 13-3 run to push the lead past 20 points. The Wolves scored 10 points in the period, while the Knights added 23, extending their advantage to 64-39 and taking firm control of the game.

Keuka attempted a rally in the fourth quarter, outscoring Geneseo in the final period, but the comeback fell short.
