The Keuka College Women’s Basketball team faced a tough challenge against SUNY Geneseo in an Empire 8 matchup on Friday evening. The Wolves fell 83-40 at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center.
Sydney Brown (Lowville, N.Y. / Lowville Academy) led the Wolves with 9 points, all coming from three-pointers. Brooke Burd (Canisteo, N.Y. / Canisteo-Greenwood) contributed 8 points and grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds.
Geneseo came out strong in the first quarter, opening the game with an 11-2 run, the sole score came from a jumper by Brooke Burd. A three-pointer by Sydney Brown kept the deficit to single digits. However, Geneseo’s sharp shooting propelled them to a 23-10 lead by the end of the first quarter.
The Wolves found some rhythm in the second quarter, led by Mary Cotter (Hershey, Pa. / Hershey), who hit a three-pointer early in the frame. Sophia Babcock (Oswego, N.Y. / Oswego) added another three-pointer, and Lillian Mullen (Canisteo, N.Y. / Canisteo-Greenwood) contributed with a jumper in transition. Despite the effort, Geneseo’s consistency allowed them to extend their lead to 44-23 at halftime.
In the third quarter, Keuka battled but could not close the gap. Burd hit two free throws to start the scoring for the Wolves, followed by a jump shot from Cotter. Mullen provided another spark with a mid-range jumper, and Brown drained a three-pointer late in the quarter. The Wolves were outscored 21-14 in the quarter, with Geneseo maintaining control of the 65-37 game.
The fourth quarter proved challenging for Keuka, as the team was held to just three points. Geneseo capitalized on turnovers and their bench scoring to close out the game, 83-40.

- Keuka College moves to 6-14 in the all-time series with the Knights, this was the first meeting of the two teams since Geneseo joined the Empire 8 Conference.
- Brooke Burd surpassed 100 points on the season
- Burd also surpassed 150 rebounds in her career, she continues to lead the Empire 8 Conference in rebounds per game, averaging 10.2.
Up Next for Keuka College: The Green and Gold will stay on their home court on Saturday afternoon, against SUNY Brockport. This will be the first meeting of these two teams since SUNY Brockport joined the Empire 8 Conference.
