Gannon leads Herons at Martin/Wallace Invitational

The William Smith golf team finished 10th in the Martin/Wallace Invitational hosted by SUNY Cortland to open is spring season this weekend. The 36-hole tournament was played at the par 72 Cortland Country Club.

Junior Caroline Gannon led the Herons, finishing 16th in a field of 49 golfers. She posted a birdie and eight pars during an opening round 85 and closed the tournament with an 89.

Ithaca won the team title behind individual medalist Rheanna DeCrow’s weekend aggregate 152, edging runner-up Iyene Essien of Union by one stroke. DeCrow closed the tournament with an even par 72.

William Smith will be back on the golf course Wednesday, April 16, when the Herons host SUNY Geneseo for a dual match beginning at 11 a.m. at Clifton Springs Country Club.
