ALFRED, N.Y.—Junior catcher Ty Gallagher hit his team-leading fifth home run, but the Hobart College baseball team ended the season with a 10-6 loss at Alfred State College.
Gallagher’s round tripper was a three-run blast that gave the Statesmen a 6-4 lead in the top of the fourth. With a 1 for 4 day at the dish, he finished the season as Hobart’s leader in batting average (.359), hits (33), doubles (9), home runs, walks (23), on-base percentage (.520), slugging percentage (.641) and OPS (1.161).
The Pioneers (25-14) scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth to retake the lead and added two additional runs in the fifth.
First-years Will Jones and Nate Garrett each enjoyed multi-hit games. Jones was 2 for 4 with a run scored. Garrett was 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Graduate student Michael Whiteherse singled to right in his final at-bat, extending his hitting streak to 13 games. He led the Statesmen with 31 stolen bases this season, matching the program’s record set by Bryan Carter in 1994. Whiteherse also scored a team-high 29 runs.
Hobart ended the season with a 9-21 overall record.
