AURORA, N.Y.—Junior Ty Gallagher smacked a pair of two-run doubles and added an RBI single to lead the Hobart College baseball team to an 11-6 win at Wells College this evening. The win is the third in the past four games for the Statesmen, who improved to 7-15 overall, while the Express slip to 10-20.
Gallagher’s first two-run double kicked off a five-run first for the Statesmen. First-year Isaiah Pinto delivered his second home run of the season, scoring Gallagher. First-year Michael Presbrey capped the early fireworks with his first collegiate homer.
Wells pulled back four of those runs in the bottom of the first, but Hobart starting pitcher, sophomore Griffin Snyder worked out of the jam, stranding two runners. He held the Express scoreless over the next five innings.
Hobart’s bats went right back to work in the top of the second. Gallagher’s second two-run double made it a 7-4 game. First-year Will Jones singled to center to score Gallagher. Jones stole second and moved to third and home on wild pitches to put the Statesmen in front 9-4.
In the sixth, Gallagher’s third hit of the day, a single through the right side, scored first-year Evan Munuz and, an inning later, first-year Christian Petry doubled home Presbrey to make it 11-4.
Wells scored twice in the bottom of the seventh and pushed for more. First-year Peter Dunham came on in relief of Snyder to get the final two outs and pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth to nail down the win.
Hobart will be back on the diamond Wednesday, April 19, when the Statesmen host Keuka (5-16) at 6 p.m.
