The Atlantic 10 Conference announced its men’s lacrosse postseason awards on Wednesday. Four Hobart Statesmen were among the honorees. Junior midfielder David Peterkin (The Kiski School/Lindsay, Ontario) was voted by the conference coaches to the All-A10 first team, sophomore faceoff specialist Mike Valent (Rush Henrietta/Henrietta, N.Y.) was elected to the second team, and first-year attackman Daniel Cano (Hun School of Princeton/Westfield, N.J.) earned a spot on the All-Rookie Team. Peterkin and senior midfielder John Jude Considine (Southside/Rockville Centre, N.Y.) represented Hobart on the A10 All-Academic Team.
Peterkin started all 14 games this season, producing 21 goals, 17 assists and 13 ground balls. He tied for the team lead and tied for fifth in the conference in assists. Peterkin was second on the team in points, ranking 10th in the A10 in points per game. He recorded a career-high six points on two goals and four assists against St. Bonaventure and followed that performance with three goals and two assists at UMass.
In 39 career games, Peterkin has 37 goals and 25 assists for 62 points. He is the third Statesman to earn first team All-A10 honors since Hobart joined the conference in 2023.
Peterkin is an economics and management and entrepreneurship major. He received the 2024 Arnold Scholar-Athlete Award.
Valent was a force at the faceoff X this season, winning 104-of-157 faceoffs and grabbing 66 ground balls. His .662 winning percentage is the highest in a single season in the program’s Division I era. Valent won 10 or more faceoffs in a game five times this season, including a season-high 17 (against just two losses) against St. John’s. He scooped up a season-high 10 ground balls against both St. Bonaventure and UMass.
Valent is second in the A10 and 23rd in the nation in ground balls per game (5.5). His faceoff winning percentage would be third in the nation, except he ended up five faceoff attempts shy of qualifying for the national rankings. In fact, if Valent was credited with five losses to get to the qualifying standard, his faceoff percentage would be fifth in the country.
Valent also contributed 11 points to the offense, scoring five goals and assisting on six. His five goals are the most by a Hobart faceoff man since Tim Booth ’03 had 15 goals in 2003. Valent had a season-high three points on a goal and two assists in the season-opening win over Canisius.
In 22 games over the past two seasons, Valent has won faceoffs at a .629 rate, collecting 106 ground balls.
Cano played in all 14 games, starting 12 this season. He produced six goals and five assists for 11 points and collected five ground balls. Cano logged a season-high four points on two goals and two assists in Hobart’s 13-12 win over Bucknell. He also notched a pair of assists against nationally-ranked Richmond.
Cano is the fourth Statesman named to the A10 All-Rookie Team since 2023.
Considine is an economics major. He was named to the Northeast Conference Academic Honor Roll in 2022.
A three-year starter, Considine played in 31 career games, producing 45 goals and eight assists for 45 points. He started all 14 games this season, logging 21 goals, four assists and 13 ground balls. Considine earned second-team All-A10 honors following his sophomore season when he had 20 goals and three assists.
Hobart was 5-9 this season and finished tied for third in the Atlantic 10 with a 2-3 record.
