The Finger Lakes Community College women’s basketball team opened postseason play with a hard-fought 56-52 victory over Tompkins Cortland Community College in the NJCAA Region III Sub-Regional Round on Tuesday night.
Jazzmyn Lewis (Waterloo, N.Y.) led the way for the Lakers with a double-double, scoring 22 points while grabbing 12 rebounds. She also made a strong impact defensively, finishing with 7 steals and 2 blocks. Dalayla Alexander (Ellicottville, N.Y.) contributed 15 points and 6 rebounds, while Kierra Shaughnessy (Canastota, N.Y.) pulled down 12 rebounds. Jade Roussell (Dundee, N.Y.) and Ella Robinson (Hallstead, PA.) rounded out the balanced effort with 8 and 7 points, respectively.
After trailing 31-28 at halftime, FLCC turned up the defensive pressure, holding the Panthers to just 32% shooting while forcing 19 turnovers. The win marks the Lakers’ first postseason victory since 2018.
The Lakers now advance to the NJCAA Region III Quarterfinals, where they will face #2 Jefferson Community College in Watertown, N.Y.
