It was a night to remember for Finger Lakes Community College men’s volleyball, as Evan Lukasciewicz (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) delivered a dominant performance with a record-shattering 30 kills, leading the Lakers to a dramatic five-set victory (3-2) over Bryant & Stratton (WI). His historic night surpassed the previous program record of 23 kills in a single match.
Setting the stage for Lukasciewicz’s record-breaking performance was Cole Thomas (Fayetteville, N.Y./Chittenango), who distributed a program-best 58 assists, breaking the previous mark of 55. His pinpoint passing fueled a Laker offense that hit .293 on the night, as Bryce Nickson (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) added 12 kills and 18 digs and Jake Seklar (Rochester, N.Y./Gates-Chili) contributed 6 kills and 8 points.
The Lakers fought through a back-and-forth battle, with Dominick Alvarado (York, PA./Northeastern) controlling the net defensively with a team-high 5 block assists, while Aaron Hennessy (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) and Grant Walker (Boston, N.Y./Eden) provided valuable support on both ends. Defensively, FLCC racked up 68 digs, turning defense into offense to help secure the victory in a decisive fifth set.
With their biggest win of the season, the Lakers will look to carry the momentum forward as they prepare for a pair of matches today with Concordia University and St. Xavier.
