The Keuka College Women’s Soccer team lost an Empire 8 game to Elmira College 3-1 on Wednesday night at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex.
Senior Peyton Miller (Mercer, Pa. / Mercer) scored her team-leading third goal for Keuka College (1-10-2, 0-6-2 Empire 8) in the second half.
The Soaring Eagles worked the wings early in the game trying to use their speed on the outside. It paid off in the eighth minute as the visitors scored to take the 1-0 lead. The Green and Gold had three shots in the half but never really tested the Elmira keeper. Elianna Wilder (Victor, N.Y. / Victor) came up big for the Wolves in the final minutes making a tough save to keep it 1-0 at the half.
Elmira scored again early in the second half to widen their lead. They then took advantage of a Wolves turnover in the 64th minute making it 3-0. Keuka College did not go away. The Wolves pulled one back in the 75th minute. Lindsey Garbacz (West Seneca, N.Y. / West Seneca) got the ball in the midfield and hit Peyton Miller splitting the Elmira defense. The senior broke in on goal and tucked it inside the left post to make it 3-1. For the final 15 minutes, the Wolves controlled the possession. However, despite having the ball, Keuka College was unable to generate a lot of shots. Off of a corner kick, the ball was loose in the box but they were not able to get a foot on to make it a one-goal game. Elmira College withstood the pressure to defeat the Wolves 3-1.
