Cayuga Community College men’s basketball pulled away in the second half to secure an 88–69 home victory over Fulton-Montgomery Community College on Saturday.
After taking a 39–36 lead into halftime, Cayuga dominated the final 20 minutes behind a strong defensive effort and balanced scoring. Yaqub Drammeh led the Spartans with 29 points and 10 rebounds, while Josiah Murphy added 20 points along with seven rebounds, seven assists and three steals.
“That was a great team win,” said head coach Tony Borges. “We had 18 team assists and played good defense, holding them to one-and-done on a lot of trips down the floor.”
The game was closely contested early, with both teams trading leads in the opening minutes. Cayuga built a small advantage midway through the first half and maintained it into the break. In the second half, the Spartans took control, holding FMCC to just five points over the first 10 minutes while opening the half on a 17–5 run.
Omar Musa finished with 16 points, four steals and three rebounds, while Kirk McFarlane contributed 15 points, nine rebounds, three assists and a block.
Cayuga returns home Tuesday, Feb. 3, when it hosts Finger Lakes Community College. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m.
