SHARE NOW

No. 1 Cornell defeated No. 2 Maryland 13-10 in the 2025 DI men’s lacrosse championship, capturing its first title since 1977 and its fourth overall. It was the first 1-seed versus 2-seed in the championship game since 2005.

For Cornell, it marks the first NCAA team championship in any sport since men’s lacrosse 1977 title.

CJ Kirst’s six goals and seven points resulted in him being named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player. He was joined on the all-tournament team by seniors Michael Long, Wyatt Knust, Hugh Kelleher and sophomore Ryan Goldstein. Kirst’s 82nd and final goal, the empty netter, tied the NCAA single season mark of 82 by Yale’s Jon Reese (1990) and UAlbany’s Miles Thompson (2014).

Jack Herendeen and Sam Ricci, both Victor High alumni, are also on the Cornell team.

Maryland’s All-American goalkeeper, Logan McNaney, is a native of Corning, and made 11 saves in goal.
