The Keuka College Men’s Basketball team lost on Tuesday 84-79 at SUNY Cobleskill.
Keuka College (2-4) was led by Marcus Reed (Queens, N.Y. / Our Saviour Lutheran) with 26 points. Will Tehan (Victor, N.Y. / Victor) added 18 points and nine rebounds for the Wolves.
After trading points early, Keuka College jumped out to a ten-point lead on the back of the shooting from Marcus Reed. Getting his first start of the season, Reed started the game 5-5 from the floor, going 4-4 from three. He hit a three in three straight possessions to cap an 11-0 run for the Wolves to force SUNY Cobleskill into a timeout with Keuka leading 26-16. The Fighting Tigers responded, cutting the lead down to one multiple times but never overtaking the Wolves. The margin was there in the final minutes, but the Wolves rattled off nine unanswered with a steal and three by CJ Temple (Marion, Ohio / Marion Harding) in the middle of it. Cobleskill made a shot at the buzzer, but Keuka led 52-44 at the break.
SUNY Cobleskill outscored Keuka 10-2 over the opening two minutes of the second half to tie the game. A three by Will Tehan pushed the lead back to Keuka. The game stayed close for most of the second half. SUNY Cobleskill overtook the lead with eight minutes left to play. They led by four, but four straight from Damon Brumfield (Rochester, N.Y. / Irondequoit) tied the game at 75-75 with 3:51 remaining. The lead changed hands four times in the next two minutes. A pair of free throws by Akinlana Popoola (Cleveland, Ohio / Padua Franciscan) with 2:11 left gave Keuka a 79-78 lead. However, those would be the final points the Wolves scored. Keuka went 0-5 from the field in the closing minutes as SUNY Cobleskill scored six unanswered to win the game 84-79.
