Cayuga Community College Baseball opens the 2025 postseason on the road this weekend after finishing third in Region III’s East Division behind Hudson Valley Community College and Herkimer College.
After an 11-2 loss to Division II Monroe Community College on Wednesday, Cayuga enters the postseason with an overall record of 28-17 and a divisional record of 17-11. They start the playoffs Saturday at the West Division’s second-place team, Finger Lakes Community College (34-16, 20-6).
Cayuga and Finger Lakes played earlier this season at Falcon Park, with the Spartans coming away with wins of 14-4 and 9-8 in extra innings.
The teams open the best-of-three Sub-Regionals with a doubleheader Saturday at the Lakers’ field in Canandaigua, with the first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. A deciding game three, if necessary, would be played Sunday at Finger Lakes.
Games are free to attend and can also be streamed at https://www.youtube.com/@FLCCAthletics/streams. The winner advances to the Region III tournament, held again this season at Falcon Park in Auburn starting Thursday, May 15.
Cayuga has featured a balanced lineup throughout the season, with eight players batting at least .300, five finishing with at least 30 RBI, and seven scoring at least 30 runs. Jeremy Recio finished sixth in Region III with a .462 average and was fourth in RBI with 50, Kevin Dolan was fifth in runs scored with 53, and Michael DeRosa was 11th with 49 hits.
On the mound, Kyle Peryer led Cayuga with seven wins and five complete games, both of which are tied for the best in Region III. Three Spartans pitchers — Isaac Allison, James MacLean and Ashtyn Traugott-Knoll — had five wins apiece, and Antonio Munoz led Cayuga with 43 strikeouts.
Elsewhere in the Region III playoffs, the East Division’s top seed, Hudson Valley, hosts Erie Community College, the West’s fourth seed. Herkimer, the second seed in the East, hosts the West’s third-place finisher, Genesee Community College. The top seed in the West, SUNY Niagara, hosts the fourth-seed from the East, SUNY Broome.
All series start Saturday, with deciding games played Sunday if necessary.
