Cayuga Community College’s men’s basketball team mounted an impressive second-half comeback Sunday but ultimately fell short against #1 Mohawk Valley Community College, losing 95–83 on the road.
The Spartans, now 2–3 overall and 2–2 in Region III play, trailed by double digits at halftime after the Hawks closed the first half on a 33–19 run to take a 50–33 lead into the break.
Cayuga battled back early in the second half. An and-one from Josiah Murphy cut the deficit to eight, and baskets from Jai Clayton and Yagub Drammeh pulled the Spartans within four at 60–56. But Mohawk Valley quickly answered with back-to-back three-pointers and kept control the rest of the way.
Drammeh led Cayuga with a standout performance, recording 25 points and 22 rebounds. Jadeir Breedlove also scored 25 points, adding four assists, while Kirk McFarlane contributed 10 points and seven rebounds. Murphy finished with 17 points, seven rebounds, and five assists.
The Spartans return to action on Wednesday, Nov. 19, when they travel to Jefferson Community College for a 6 p.m. tipoff.
