Cayuga Community College Men’s Soccer received no shortage of postseason accolades after finishing its 2024 campaign with a 15-1 record and a runner-up finish in the regional tournament.
Top NJCAA scorer Jake Botterill was named Region III Player of the Year, and Coach Chris Davison was named Coach of the Year after guiding the Spartans from an unranked start to a #2 ranking at the end of the regular season.
Botterill (1st Team) was one of six Spartans named All-Region, joined by defensemen Will Fearon (1st Team), Matt Manton and Kai Reading (both 2nd Team), striker Reece Harper (2nd Team), and midfielders Bigad Sid (2nd Team) and Jordan Mati (3rd Team).
Botterill finished the season with a Region III- and NJCAA-best 38 goals and ends his career as Cayuga’s all-time goal leader with 69 goals. He also had 20 assists this season, which trailed Fearon (22 assists) and Sid (25 assists). Sid’s assist total was second in the nation.
Sid and Harper finished second and third on the team with 12 and 11 goals, respectively, with Harper also adding five assists. Mati and Reading ended the season with 13 and 12 assists, respectively, with Mati scoring four goals and Reading scoring three.
Fearon, Manton (four assists, two goals), and Reading keyed a Spartans’ defense that surrendered just 12 goals on the season and posted nine shutouts in 16 matches.
Davison led the Spartans to a 14-0 regular season that landed them the top seed in the regional tournament. Four of those wins came over nationally ranked teams. The 15 wins are the most the Spartans have posted in Davison’s five-year tenure as head coach.
