Cayuga Community College Baseball picked up two thrilling Mid-State Athletic Conference wins over nationally-ranked Genesee Community College Thursday at Falcon Park. The Spartans are now 4-4 on the season.
Cayuga dominated the opener, racking up 15 hits in a 9-2 victory. Dylan Gordon pitched five strong innings, allowing just one unearned run and two hits while striking out three. Jack Walters closed out the game with two innings, giving up one unearned run and striking out three more. The Spartans got off to an early lead with four runs in the first inning, highlighted by run-scoring singles from Ben Hatfield, Tristan Sierra, and Joshua Lightburn. Lightburn finished the game with four RBIs, while Hatfield had two RBIs and scored twice.
The second game was a back-and-forth battle. Genesee built an early 4-1 lead, but Cayuga rallied with six runs in the fifth inning, including a key double from Tyler Black and a two-run single from Jakson Ross. Genesee briefly regained the lead, but Cayuga tied the game on a bases-loaded walk by Sierra and scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch by Hatfield. Ross and Lightburn both had two hits, while Recio, Black, and Eathen Yoon all added doubles. James MacLean earned the win in relief as seven Spartans crossed the plate in the 9-8 triumph.
Cayuga returns to Falcon Park Friday for another MSAC doubleheader against Tompkins Cortland Community College, with the first pitch scheduled for noon.
