The Keuka College women’s basketball team picked up a strong non-conference victory on Saturday afternoon, defeating SUNY Morrisville 63-54.
Brooke Burd (Canisteo, N.Y. / Canisteo-Greenwood) and Mary Cotter (Hershey, Pa. / Hershey) each recorded a double-double to lead the Wolves, who improved to 5-4 overall and 0-1 in Empire 8 play. Burd paced Keuka College with a career-high 22 points and pulled down 17 rebounds. Cotter finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds, while Courtney Moreau (Brasher Falls, N.Y. / Brasher Falls) also scored in double figures with 10 points off the bench.
Keuka College got off to a fast start, winning the opening tip and striking first as Lillian Mullen (Canisteo, N.Y. / Canisteo-Greenwood) found Cotter on the wing for a three-pointer. The Wolves scored the first five points before SUNY Morrisville answered with seven straight. Keuka responded with a 10-0 run to regain control and took a 19-13 lead after the first quarter.
The Wolves extended their advantage to nine early in the second quarter, their largest lead of the first half. SUNY Morrisville trimmed the deficit to two at 24-22, but Keuka closed the half strong, outscoring the Mustangs 10-3 over the final five minutes to take a 34-25 lead into halftime.
SUNY Morrisville opened the second half with five straight points to cut into the margin. Keuka’s first basket of the half came three minutes in when Alyssa Hogle (Auburn, N.Y. / Auburn) fed Burd for a layup. Moreau provided an immediate spark off the bench, knocking down a three midway through the quarter to make it 41-33. After a Mustang basket, she connected again from beyond the arc to push the lead back to nine. Cotter capped the quarter with a late jumper as Keuka carried a 46-35 lead into the final period.
The Wolves maintained control throughout the fourth quarter, keeping the lead in double figures for most of the frame and stretching it to as many as 16 points. Keuka College went on to secure the 63-54 victory.

- The win snapped a five-game winning streak for SUNY Morrisville against Keuka College and marked the Wolves’ first victory over the Mustangs since the 2018-19 season.
