The Keuka College Women’s Basketball team fell to St. John Fisher 76-47 in an Empire 8 Conference matchup on Friday evening.
Brooke Burd (Canisteo, N.Y. / Canisteo-Greenwood) and Lillian Mullen (Canisteo, N.Y. / Canisteo-Greenwood) led the Wolves with 10 points each. Sydney Brown (Lowville, N.Y. / Lowville Academy) added 8 points, including two three-pointers, and pulled down 6 rebounds.
The Wolves started the game strong, taking an early 4-0 lead on a jumper by Sydney Brown and a layup by Mary Cotter (Hershey, Pa. / Hershey). St. John Fisher quickly responded, but Keuka stayed competitive throughout the first quarter. Ellen Lavonas (Rochester, N.Y. / Brighton) hit a layup off an assist from Lillian Mullen, and Mullen added a jumper in the closing seconds to tie the game 12-12 after one.
In the second quarter, St. John Fisher’s defense tightened, holding Keuka to just eight points. Sydney Brown hit her first three-pointer of the game early in the quarter to take a 4 point lead, but turnovers hindered Keuka’s momentum. Layups by Mary Cotter and Brooke Burd kept the Wolves within reach at halftime, trailing 30-20.
The Wolves fought hard in the third quarter, with Brooke Burd scoring 3 of her 10 points and grabbing two rebounds. Mullen provided a spark with 4 points in the quarter, while Sydney Brown hit another three-pointer to cut into the Cardinals’ lead. However, St. John Fisher outscored Keuka 21-13 in the frame to extend their advantage to 51-33.
Keuka continued to push in the fourth quarter, with Sophia Babcock (Oswego, N.Y. / Oswego) hitting a three-pointer and Ellen Lavonas adding two free throws. Burd also connected on a three-pointer, but the Cardinals’ consistent offense closed out the game. Despite a solid all-around effort, St. John Fisher pulled away for the 76-47 victory.
