Former major leaguer Tim Locastro is retiring from professional baseball after a 13-year career that included stops with the Yankees and Mets.
The Auburn native is moving into coaching, joining the San Diego Padres as a roving baserunning and outfield coordinator, working primarily with their minor league players. Locastro spent last season with the Padres’ top affiliate, the El Paso Chihuahuas, batting .270 with nine home runs, 52 RBIs, and 32 stolen bases.
The 2010 Auburn High School graduate and Ithaca College alum told the Auburn Citizen his decision to retire is “bittersweet” as he transitions from playing to mentoring the next generation of players.
