SHARE NOW

The Yates County community came together in a remarkable display of environmental responsibility at the 2023 Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day on . This year’s event took in waste from over 300 register participants. According to County Administrator Nonie Flynn, the collection and responsible disposal of such a large amount of electronic and hazardous waste will help to ensure a cleaner and safer environment.

Highlights from the event:

Electronic Waste Recycling: Yates County residents recycled their old electronic devices, preventing them from ending up in landfills. In total, approximately 12,000 pounds of electronic waste was responsibly recycled.

Paint Recycling: 14 cubic yards of paint were collected of which about half were deemed fit for recycling, ensuring that the harmful chemicals in paint did not seep into our soil or contaminate our water sources.

Community Engagement: The success of this event would not have been possible without the participation of Yates County residents. Their willingness to dispose of hazardous waste responsibly showcases a collective commitment to preserving our local environment for future generations.

From Flynn, “A heartfelt thank you goes out to the volunteers, staff, and sponsors who dedicated their time, resources to ensure the smooth operation of the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day. As we celebrate the remarkable success of the Yates County 2023 Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day, we also look forward to continuing our efforts to promote sustainability and protect the environment. Together, we can build a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable future
for Yates County.”
