Yates County to Honor Vietnam Veterans This Month

A ceremony will be held in Yates County later this month to honor Vietnam War Veterans. The March 29th ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. in the County Office Building Auditorium.

On Monday, the Yates County Legislature adopted a resolution proclaiming March 29th, 2024 as Vietnam Veterans Day in Yates County.

“We are holding this ceremony to honor our Vietnam Veterans on National Vietnam War Veterans Day as March 29th, 2024 marks the 51st anniversary of when the last 2,500 American Combat troops were withdrawn from Vietnam,” says County Director of Veteran Services Doug Gibbs. “We invite all Vietnam veterans to attend as this ceremony is in their honor.”

The Honor Guard from the Johnson-Costello American Legion Post 355 will present the colors followed by brief remarks by Gibbs and Rushville resident Lt Col Win Harper USMC retired. Gibbs will then read the Proclamation. A bugler will play Taps to conclude the ceremony.

All veterans and the public are invited to attend.
