The membership that makes up Yates County COPS and Yates County Communications Emergency Services Unions wants to know why members of the county legislature dismissed a proposal on employee healthcare that could provide the county an opportunity to save hundreds of thousands of dollars annually while improving the healthcare benefits to employees.
Patrick Brewer with the Yates County Sheriff’s Office requested the Legislature reconsider it at its Monday meeting.
“On behalf of Local 1869, the Yates County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol Division, we respectfully request that the healthcare plan be revisited by the legislative body,” Brewer said. “It’s a cost-savings measure to the county and a positive opportunity for the employees, thank you.”
Chairwoman Leslie Church offered this response to Brewer, “Be assured things will continue to be discussed, it’s not over.”
In a statement released to Finger Lakes Daily News prior to the Legislature meeting, Church wrote, “We are looking into additional information on current and potential future plan options for all Yates County employees. More information will be provided in the coming weeks.”
