    Very cold wind chills as low as 15 to 25 below expected.

    Portions of central New York and northeast Pennsylvania.

    Until 9 AM EST Sunday.
    IMPACTS
    The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 15 to 25 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Very cold temperatures can lead to hypothermia with prolonged exposure.
    ADDITIONAL DETAILS
    Actual air temperature will be below zero each night through Sunday morning. The prolonged cold could cause pipes to freeze or burst. Daytime high temperatures will climb above zero with afternoon highs of 5 to 15 degrees above zero.
    PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS
    Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves. Keep pets indoors as much as possible.

Yates County Sheriff’s Office Presents NYS Sheriffs’ Institute Scholarship to FLCC Graduate

Yates County Sheriff Frank Ryan and Undersheriff Brandon Jensen recently presented the New York State Sheriffs’ Institute Scholarship to Gavin Doyle of Penn Yan.

Doyle is graduating from the Finger Lakes Community College Criminal Justice program, where he was nominated for the award by his professors. According to the sheriff’s office, Doyle plans to pursue a career in federal law enforcement and will continue his education at Keuka College.

Sheriff Ryan and Undersheriff Jensen congratulated Doyle on his accomplishments and thanked the NYS Sheriffs’ Institute for its continued support of youth pursuing careers in criminal justice. They also extended appreciation to FLCC President Dr. Robert Nye and college staff for nominating Doyle, as well as Ontario County Sheriff David Cirencione and Chief McGrath for attending the presentation and supporting the program.

The NYS Sheriffs’ Institute provides scholarships, resources, and leadership programs to help students across the state advance their criminal justice education.
