With a career that has spanned five decades, Yates County Sheriff Ron Spike says 2023 will be his last year in law enforcement. Earlier this month, Spike announced he would not seek another term as Sheriff, a position he was first elected to in 1992. Schuyler County Sheriff Kevin Rumsey, who just completed his first year as that county’s top law enforcement officer, said Sheriff Spike is a giant in the law enforcement community.

During a visit with the Yates County Legislature at the end of last month, Peter Kehoe, Executive Director of the New York State Sheriff’s Association, said Sheriff Spike’s impact has been felt all over New York State.

Sheriff Spike began his career in law enforcement in 1970.
