Just days after announcing his bid to become the next sheriff of Yates County, Frank Ryan has unveiled who his running mate is.

If Ryan were to win the November election, Brandon Jensen would be his Undersheriff. Jensen is a 23-year veteran of the sheriff’s office. A 1989 graduate of Penn Yan Academy, Jensen began his career as an Emergency Services Dispatcher in 2000. Throughout his career, Jensen has held a number of positions within the sheriff’s office and is currently a K9 Unit Supervisor and certified New York K9 Trainer and Examiner.

Jensen wrote, “I began my career with the Yates County Sheriff’s Office as an Emergency Services Dispatcher in 2000. In 2001 I was assigned to the Road Patrol division of the Sheriff’s Office. I serve as a Firearms Instructor, Active Shooter Instructor, Reality Based Training Instructor, as well as Field Training Officer. In 2003 I was assigned to the K9 Unit of the Road Patrol. Currently, the K9 Unit Supervisor and NYS-certified K9 Trainer/Examiner, working with my second assigned K9 partner (Kinni). Prior to my employment with the Sheriff’s Office, I served in the US Army from 1994-1999 as a Military Police Officer. In 1995 I was the Distinguished Graduate of the Military Police Canine Handlers Course (Lackland Airforce Base). I was assigned to the K9 Unit at Ft. Sill, Ok, planned, coordinated and conducted missions with assigned military work dogs to include missions with the United States Marshals Service, United States Secret Service, United States Customs Service, and several local law enforcement agencies.

“Born and raised in Yates County. Graduated from Penn Yan Academy in 1989. Member of Penn Yan Moose Lodge 2030, Seneca Lake Duck Hunters Club, past coach for Penn Yan Junior Mustangs Football. Enjoy family gatherings, camping and lawn maintenance. Currently reside in Benton Center with my wife, Joy, of 14 years and son Jaxon. Have 3 grown children.”

Sheriff Ron Spike announced a few weeks ago he would not seek re-election in the Fall. He has been with the Sheriff’s Office since 1970 and was first elected sheriff in 1992.

So far, Ryan is the only person to announce their candidacy for Sheriff.
