Yates County Seniors To Receive Increase in Property Tax Exemptions

SHARE NOW

Some senior citizens in Yates County will soon get an increase in their property tax exemptions. County Administrator Nonie Flynn says this is the result of a resolution passed this week by the county legislature. The county will be increasing the income limit by $6,000 for residents 65 and over for property tax exemptions starting with the 2025 tax bill.

Flynn told us eligibility for the county’s seniors will depend on their income levels.

“They can receive either 5 percent or up to 50 percent in exemptions from their assessed value on their property to be exempt from the Yates County property tax,” said Flynn.

Real Property Director Meghan Kincaid is letting the other municipalities in the county know that Yates County is doing this exemption. The village of Dundee has done this exemption for its residents in the past and Flynn is hopeful other towns and villages will follow suit in increasing the income levels.
