Yates County saw strong growth in local sales tax collections in the first nine months of 2025, according to the latest quarterly report from New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli.
From January through September, Yates County’s sales tax revenue increased 10.4% compared to the same period last year, making it one of the top-performing counties in the state. Only Hamilton County reported higher growth at 12%, with Chenango (10.4%), Delaware (10.3%), and Orleans (9.7%) also seeing double-digit increases.
Statewide, local government sales tax collections totaled $18.2 billion, up 4.3% from last year. Nearly 90% of counties across New York experienced year-over-year increases, though some counties, including Sullivan and Schoharie, saw declines.
Comptroller DiNapoli noted that while sales tax growth is encouraging, municipalities face fiscal risks due to federal policy changes and a slowing economy. “Local officials who rely on these revenues should take advantage of the financial planning tools and guidance my office offers,” he said.
