SHARE NOW

After several months of discussion by the county legislature as well as the county’s finance and ad hoc committees, a resolution for Yates County to become a member of the Rochester-Genesee Regional Transportation District was voted down by legislators on Monday. The move to go with RTS was suggested by both committees. Before the vote, District Four representative George Lawson explained what would happen if the resolution was voted down.

The vote on the resolution was 6 to 6 with legislator William Holgate absent and Terry Button attending via Zoom. Voting in favor of the resolution were:  Edward Bronson, Winona Flynn, Leslie Church, Sarah Purdy, George Lawson, and Patrick Killen. Voting “No” were: Douglas Paddock, Leigh Mackerchar, Daniel Banach, Jesse Jayne, Richard Harper, and Richard Willson

Following the vote, Robert Izard, President of the Board of Directors for Yates Transit Service, the current public transportation service provider for the county, addressed the Legislature.

The county’s ad hoc committee will now seek firms to hire to handle requests for proposals for public transportation providers in the county once its current contract with YTS ends.
