Criminal charges are in the process of being filed against the man who allegedly held a woman at gunpoint for some time and prompted a Shelter in Place for residents near Rubin Drive in Rushville.
The Monday afternoon situation began around 3:30 when the woman called 9-1-1 to report a domestic incident and told dispatchers a man with a gun was threatening to shoot anyone coming into the apartment and would then shoot her. At around 4:15 p.m., deputies were able to safely get the woman out of the apartment through a rear window.
After negotiating with law enforcement over the telephone for more than two hours, the 63-year-old man was taken into custody without incident. He was then taken to a mental health facility.
The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Yates County Sheriff’s Office at the scene with negotiators and its Bearcat tactical vehicle.
“All ended with peace restored and I thank our 911 dispatchers, both Yates and Ontario Deputies for their professional police work as the incident was resolved without injury or getting worse,” said Yates County Sheriff Ron Spike. “he assist from Ontario County was greatly appreciated.”
