A half-dozen projects in Yates County have been announced as recipients of the county’s Natural and Recreational Resources Grant. This grant program aims to support projects that enhance and preserve the natural beauty and recreational opportunities within the county. After a thorough review of the applications, the following projects have been awarded funding.
Keuka Lake Level Management Study – Yates Co Soil & Water
The Yates County Soil & Water Conservation District has been awarded $7,500 to develop a predictive lake-level response modeling tool and conduct a feasibility analysis on the Penn Yan Gates. This study aims to mitigate shoreline flooding, enhance downstream ecological conditions, and simplify lake management operations.
Youth Lacrosse Storage Facility – Penn Yan Youth Lacrosse
Penn Yan Youth Lacrosse has been granted $10,000 to construct a new storage facility to replace the deteriorating structure at the Lacrosse Box. This project will alleviate financial burdens on the local group and ensure accessible and well-maintained equipment storage for the county’s young athletes.
Spring St. Park Handicap Sidewalk – Village of Dundee
The Village of Dundee will receive $9,754 to construct a sidewalk from the Spring St parking area to the wheelchair-accessible swing, on to the pavilion, and ending at the benches along Big Stream. This project enhances park accessibility, ensuring individuals of all abilities can fully enjoy the park’s natural beauty and amenities.
Keuka Outlet Trail Seneca Mill Falls Site Access Improvements Design Phase – Friends of the Outlet
Friends of the Outlet has been awarded $3,979 for professional design, topographic surveys, pre-permitting work, and joint permit applications to create a shovel-ready project. As Phase 1 of a multi-step initiative, this project lays the groundwork for long-term enhancements that will benefit Yates County residents for generations.
Village Park PHASE II Accessibility – Village of Rushville
The Village of Rushville will receive $17,160 to construct a perimeter stone dust trail and a pedestrian walking bridge over the West River. This project is a significant step toward making the park fully accessible, ensuring all visitors can safely enjoy its recreational offerings.
Indian Pines Park Safe and Secure Playground – Village of Penn Yan
The Village of Penn Yan has been granted $35,607 to enhance safety and security at the Indian Pines Park playground. This project includes the installation of fencing to create a secure, enclosed play area where families and children of all abilities can gather and play safe
