Yates County Lieutenant Retires After 31 Year Law Enforcement Career

A 31-year career in Yates County law enforcement came to an end Friday as Lieutenant Ed Nemitz signed off from duty for the final time.

Lt. Nemitz began his career with the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office before joining the Yates County Sheriff’s Office in January 1994 as a full-time Deputy Sheriff. He rose to the rank of Sergeant in November of 2001, where he supervised the civil division of the office as well as road patrol when needed. Ed was promoted to Lieutenant in 2014, supervising the road patrol division of the sheriff’s office as well as the civil office and marine patrol, where he continued until his “last call” on Friday.
